Horsemanship has always been the fabric of our lives at Mukteshwar Stud. Our founder, Pritam Singh Sandhu was an avid horseman and a prominent presence at every equine meet in the capital – be it the national championships, the races or polo matches. It was but to be, that his family followed suit.

Gurpal did not change reins and grew up to be one of the first civilians, post independence, to play and promote the sport of polo. At a time when the sport was dominated by the army, Gurpal played off a commendable handicap of +3. Therein, lay the beginnings of Mukteshwar Stud. The Stud farm started in the mid 1980s. At first, it was just a hobby with only two-imported thoroughbred mares and a handful of half-bred mares. The farm steadily grew from there. Gurpal’s son, Angad, followed in his sire’s footsteps. He has been around horses since his childhood and has competed in various national equestrian events. Angad too is an avid polo player.

The quality of bloodstock has constantly improved with a number of top mares joining our ranks year on year. About a decade ago, the stud farm was relocated to one of the most fertile areas in the country, the gangetic plain. Today, the farm is self-sufficient and caters to the entire needs of its equine residents, in-house. Fortunately for us, the results speak for themselves.

Mukteshwar Stud has continued its rise up in the rankings published by the Indian Stud Book every year. The farm had been ranked at # 1 in the country based on stakes earned for farms with fewer than 100 starters for 8 consecutive years (2021- 20, 2020-19, 2019-18, 2018-17, 2017-16, 2016-17, 2015-16 & 2014-2015). Since then our numbers have grown and today we stand at #5 in the leading stud farms list for stakes earned with a respectable Average Earning Index of 1.53. Year on year, the number of black type performers the farm produces shows an upward trend.

Top Class, our stalwart, has yet again had a stellar racing year (2022-23) by figuring at # 2 on the number of winners list, # 2 number of wins list and # 4 on the stakes earned list (published by The Indian Stud Book). He also sired the most number of winners in Bangalore and Hyderabad winter season. Top Class has also sired a classic winner, Forseti and leading Indian juvenile, Touch Of Grey this season.

Our younger resident, Dali is the only stakes winning son of sire sensation, Scat Daddy to stand in India. His first crop has been extremely well received by trainers and owners. Dali is now ranked as the # 1 stallion for juveniles and is also the # 1 freshman sire in the country till date. He has already sire a classic winner, Time and Tide from his first crop.

With the continued hands on approach of the horse loving owners and a mass induction of the most prolific Classic Indian and International bloodstock to the roster for the current breeding season, the future is bright.
